Okay, if early cars didn't get the O-ring, then I can imagine that those used 2 
paper gaskets, but (I think) the parts list calls out the O-ring for all swing 
axle type 3s. (It just calls it a gasket, but it looks like an O-ring.)

I'm pretty sure my '68 had just one gasket and I know it had that O-ring.
