Jack One end of the wire inside the sender is connected to ground through housing of the sender. The other end of the wire inside is connected to the dash gage through the spade terminal on top. The float goes up and down changing the electrical length of the wire inside, by shorting across the 2 legs. On my '71, when I put it back on the road, one end of the wire inside was not making contact to the housing and grounding out. There is a brass spring inside that hold tension on the wire. This brass spring is riveted to the housing of the sender, ans was not making connection due to corrosion. I drilled a small hole in the housing, put a small wire through the hole, and soldered it to the spring. I then epoxied the hole closed, and connected the other end of the wire under one of the mounting screws. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) '05 KIA Sorento SUV russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
