For cleaning the govenor, and parts, just mineral spirits is fine. And I would NOT mess with the valve body inside the pan unless you have VERY clean conditions to work in. You say you have a gasket set? Do you have a new strainer/filter?? There are 4 long studs that attach the trans portion to the differential. Check the torque on those. They are known to get loose over time. There is a vent under that metal plate on top. If you are going to spray anything, get that covered. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) '05 KIA Sorento SUV russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
