Well, YOU were the one who said that this "eliminated" the VR.

Your suppliers are misinformed. The reason they don't want the cores back is 
that they have all the cores they need for the forseeable future. It's just 
because the demand has fallen so low. This is standard practice in any rebuild 
industry. If there was a need to make actual NEW units, this would be 
indicative of demand, and the cores would be required.

Agreed. For those who don't see price as an issue. Clearly I'm not among that 
group.

Repair of generator system, $10-50 & a couple hours of time (max)

Replacement of generator system, $190 & a couple (?) hours of time.

For most of us, I still say that's a lot of extra $ for no advantage.
