Yes, the metal gaskets were only for dual port beetles. It's unfortunate that 
the gasket sets don't come with the right gaskets for us here.

The photo in the Hanes book is one of the mistakes that one finds in most 
manuals. I think if you read the forward in the Haynes manual they explain that 
they get their info and photos by actually tearing down a car. In this case, 
they tore down a car which had already been taken apart and put together wrong, 
and they didn't recognize the error.

The dual carb type 3 engines used a single fiber gasket between the head and 
the intake manifold. I have these and also use them on both sides of the OE 
phenolic spacers that the FI uses.
