If the valves springs look about the same, that is what is sounds like.
You have broken a push rod. You should be able to get it out. Might take
a little fishing, but that is better than tearing the engine down. Don't
run the engine anymore than necessary, as you might poke the broken push
rod thru the push rod tube.
If you damage the push rod tube, this is a good time for one of the
adjustable repair tubes.
