My carpeting was blue all the way. The PO had a red rubber floormat (the
authentic VW accessory floormat which I would love to have) and
underneath it was blue. Of course, the rubber was nicely rotted, and
underneath the rubber the carpet got very mildewy and worse from the
water it got through the airbox. When I pulled it, I got ill something
fierce. I can only assume that the carpeting was a pertri dish of
god-knows-what.

You'd be able to tell if it was ever blue from portions that are under
stuff, i.e. the seat belt anchors, the parking brake boot, the shift
boot, etc.
