Just total up the gallons (or litres) and subtract the miles from the number when you started to record consumption, and keep doing the division sum total miles / total gallons. After a few gas stops you will get a figure which is very close to accurate. If you get miles per litre multiply that by 4.54 for mpg (UK) or by 3.6 for mpg (US). Dave.
