Ill add to Jims statement that a case that has been overheated will also not be permenantly fixed with align boring. So... if the engine has been through a traumatic event... get a new case but otherwise go ahead and have a competant shop bore it. The engine in my Square now has 95K on its rebuild and align boring, mostly highway and some boat towing. It was bored to .020 at 87K when I rebuilt the original case. It was really worn but nothing was trashed at the time.
