There's actually a different school of thought (which I happen to
adhere to... ;) as far as align-boring is concerned.
One of those classic books, I believe it's Fishers "How to Hot Rod
Volkswagen engines" (don't have it here right now, so I can't verify),
mentions that according to Volkswagen the magnesium-based crancases are
considered "non-rebuildable", end of story. If you have crankshaft
bores out of alignment then align-boring will not bring much more than
temporary relief.
Hey, thanks for making me look into Wilson's "Rebuilding your aircooled
VW" to find the source for the align-boring opinion - I love that book
:) Too bad he *does* seem to think align-boring is a good procedure...
