Re: [T3] 74 SB w/ IV engine

<x-flowed>Holy Brain Missing, Batman! What was I THINKING!? James is correct and I am WAAAAY wrong! :-( For some reason I was thinking of a 914 I saw that had the missing tin... Both of my 914's have had the tin as James describes.

James and fellow 914ers, I am so sorry for making such an incorrect statement. Man, this is embarassing...I'll make sure I go to The DDB shop today after work and have Martin or Hal beat me with some TIV cooling tin!

Hrm, no. The two flaps are there to generate some
turbulence at speed, and thus lower the pressure under
the cooling air OUTLETS under the engine. This is
helping to get hot air OUT of the engine, not cooling
air IN. The 914 engine bay is completely separated
into upper and lower halves, so all of the cool air
has to come in from above through the engine cover. The cooling fan draws from this area above. Whatever
cool air comes in from below does nothing but cool the
exhaust system and sweep hot air out from under the
car; none of it enters the cooling fan, as there's tin
in the way.

The Type 4 Busses appear to operate the same way. The
411/412 appear to operate like the Type 3.
