I'm sure I've had the odd line not come off a wheel cylinder cleanly. If the union nut has rusted to the line, it is very hard to separate the joint without twisting the hard line off too. It just depends on the severity of the rust. I think Jim usually hones the rear cyls in place, so he might not have come up against this problem. Having said that, I've not often had problems either; it may be that that's happened more on the other (newer!) VWs.


The problem I had was trying to get the rubber hose coupling separated from the brake line. They were rusted together and nothing was going to get them off... So I figured I could just replace the brake line as well...
