Ahh very well stated. [ master jedi. ] but perhaps, since VW didn't design the pistons, crank, and pretty much everything else in this motor,

Seriously though, thanks everyone for explaining that people don't use the chokes with those carbs.
I had marked it down on my list of things to worry about given various threads on the list I had seen
about people's chokes. The car currently starts up and idles pretty well, I only sometimes
have to open the throttle a tiny bit when starting it, and I don't have to hold it open but for maybe 10 seconds
before it will idle on it's own. but then there's no cold weather here.


(You have no choke on *both* sides, right?)

Actually no. the choke is still on the right side. My mechanic tells me It has been "disabled".
