Re: [T3] Auto-tranny brakeband adjustment + engine removal update

<x-flowed>> It's possible, but I tried it and it didn't help my '73 tranny. It's bands
didn't seem to need any adjustment at all.

I am not necessarily suggesting that I should attempt to do this myself. I
know someone who is a pro and who has done it before, who I could probably
persuade to do it to mine too.

Is it likely to give any benefit?

I don't know. How good a friend is he, or how expensive is he? If it helps, I'd
love to hear it.

Thanks. Maybe I'll give it a try. I understand that you can only adjust them a certain amount. Once they're too worn to be adjusted, they have to be replaced.

BTW - a slight change of plan. I'm going to be removing the engine this Saturday.

I've given up the idea of doing anything unnecessary to the engine itself. If I removed the heads, I would then be introduced to the pistons for the first time, If these look damaged, I'd be tempted to replace them. Once they're removed, I'd be able to measure the wear on the crank, and before you know it, I'd have done full engine rebuild, and another four months would have passed, so I'm going to leave the engine intact.

What I AM going to do is replace the front oil seal. If I didn't do it, it would obviously start leaking a week after I replaced the engine. I know my car. . .

So, how do you lock the "flywheel" on an automatic to undo the big central nut? Also, does it get torqued to the same torque as a manual flywheel? I can't seem to find this info in any of the books.

Daniel
