I've done it almost every possible way and I've never found that any way worked
any better than any other. It's always a good idea to go all around the car,
bleeding each wheel until you get fresh fluid out, and then do it all over
again just to make sure that you got all the air out. It should not be
necessary to do it a second time.

The best way to bleed a completely empty system is to just open each valve in
turn and let it sit until fluid comes out. Gravity will do the work and it will
happen painlessly if everything is dry when you start. It takes a rather long
time, however, maybe 20 minutes.

It's possible that you're "geographically cursed," but I suspect that this just
an excuse. Mechanics don't fix things anymore; they just replace things. They
make more money this way and they make it faster. I checked with my favorite
foreign FLAPS recently and they told me that NO ONE buys rebuild kits anymore.
At least here it's not a change in the law, it's just a change in mentality.
