I would install the electric pump under the gas tank, behind the front axle 
beam. Connect its input to a Tee in the fuel line leading to the engine. 
Connect it's output to a Tee in the line between the mech pump and the carbs.

This would require you to run an additional fuel line from front to back, but 
you can use the FI return line for this purpose.

You don't need check valves, since both pumps will have check valves built in.

You can use a momentary switch as you said, OR you could just wire the pump to 
the starter contact on the ignition switch. This would run that pump 
automatically whenever you ran the starter. I don't think the switch contact 
will notice the slight additional current.

I'm surprised that others here report no problems like yours. I would expect 
most of the bowl fuel to boil off in the heat soak after shutdown. Perhaps your 
engine runs hotter than most.
