I've never really needed to think of repairing these, but it's only nichrome wire. I suspect with a bit of work, it should be possible to recondition these, even if a different connecting system was needed for the power. I don't think nichrome can be soldered, and in any case it must warm up a fair bit in use. There's certainly no sizeable stock of replacements, and resistance measurements I've made on the odd new 6V one I have and on used 6V and 12V units shows the resistance increases as they age. We have one clockwise and one anti-clockwise (counter-clockwise) version. The way the springs turn as they heat up is opposite. It's possible the spring might be able to be reversed - without looking, I'm not sure if that would end up in the proper place though. The most common Type 3 carbs are 32PDSIT. Dave.
