Additionally, some states title a car based on the year it was sold. I think California does that. If a car was made in '73 but a dealer didn't sell it off his lot as a new car until '74, it could be titled as a '74. I've run into that before, but there doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rule about it. As Russ said, the VIN # will tell all.
