The front fan shroud is cast aluminum. The rest of the tin is steel.
The fan is mostly steel, also. The fan shroud is plenty light, I
think, and I'm not sure you'll get much out of a lighter version of
each, if it even exists.

I would plug up the air outlet horns rather than reroute any air. Some
people have used tennis balls, spraycan caps... I think nohub black
pipe end caps (house plumbing drain pipe- check out your Home Depot
plumbing aisle) would do the trick here. I would not redirect the air
elsewhere. There is a finite amount of air generated by the fan, and
the existing tin is remarkably well designed to route air where it's
needed. Messing with the airflow in an unscientific manner could yield
a very bad result, I think.
