I can't recall the details. Of the 1500S's that we saw, (never imported legally), we saw a high percentage with siezed pistons on #3. And, when we saw a siezed piston on the other 1500-1600's it was usually #3. I think at about this time that VW figured they needed to do something about it. and the retarded #3 was one of the cures. Also, they came out not too much later with the doghouse oil cooler on the T-1's and 2's. You could say, that the T-3 already had a similar design. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
