The pair I have on my Notch are steel and one can see that there is some surface rust on them, these are a couple of centimeters wide (just wide enough to cover the heater channel join - is this correct?). But, I recently picked up from a junkyard a pair that was aluminium and are about 6 centimeters wide (enough to cover the whole sill).
