There's been some discussions as to what that's for, I'm still not clear,
but I heard people postulate:


1. increased torsion when there's a load in the back, such as a squarback used to deliver stuff.
2. some situation when hard cornering, and hitting a pothole, which was described
as very dangerous. Which I think is some clasic swing axle design issue?


anyhow, I've been on the lookout for understanding that better.
