The best place to connect it is in the original location. You can use a Tee and 
install both the OE switch and the VDO sender, or you can buy the special VDO 
dual switch/sender which does both functions separately but in one package.

There is usually not enough room under the air cleaner for all of this, so 
you'll usually need to use an elbow or find one of the OG right-angle banjo 
fittings that VW installed on the dual carb engines.
