Wow, sure seems strange.... The only thing that I can think of is that somehow this body, or just the nose, is sitting high on the front axle beam. I can go outside in a couple of days and measure from the ground up to the bottom of an beam clamp, but I'd say that 5.75" sounds pretty low, which is consistent with your snubber observations.
