If you want to use a pot, I would recommend that you just use it long enough to 
determine what value of fixed resistor you put in there. A pot won't be 
reliable for long in that environment.

I have mixed feelings about tinkering with the FI settings, but this, and 
changing the fuel pressure, are both things which you can tinker with and still 
be sure of getting back to where you started.
