Just to let you guys know sometimes I make progress... I went over to a friend workshop this weekend, and got some scrap piece of magnetic stainless steel. I bent it into a sort of U-shape, but a U with serif's, then drilled a couple holes in it, and screwed it to the underside of the dash-basically putting the U-shape upside down. This hanger sticks out in front of the edge of the dash. The air handling unit-AHU, gets in the way of the back of the radio, so it needs to protrude a bit. I was thinking as a sort of theft deterrence, getting some fabric with some magnets and basically draping it over the radio-so someone walking by would not really know "Hey there's a radio in there!" Then I ran a speaker wire over to the passenger side door(a previous owner had cut holes in the door panel and door to mount speakers). So I put one speaker in there. I was going to hook up the original speaker, but I can see it is pretty cracked...maybe next time I tackle things under the dash-I'll pull that speaker and replace it. Now I have mono! The drivers door has a sort of hole started in it, but not finished...I'm thinking-since it has already been started, I may finish it, and put a second speaker in-then go for full stereo... I'm pretty happy with the look-and it's pretty easily reversible (except the holes in the door, but they were already there). -kevin '71 sqbk '65 kombi somerville, ma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
