<x-flowed>No, bigger is better. But just like a stock system, if it isn't up to snuff there will be a failure point. Setting the point gap as big as possible before misfiring is proven to provide a better burn. This results in improved power output and mileage. Of course it comes at a cost: More expensive ignition components ;-)

Not necessarily. As you increase the gap, the voltage needed to break down across it increases. This means that the voltage across every part of the ignition system increases, too...
