When I've tried to work on speedos in the past (really old Porsche > stuff) the major problem has been getting the bezel off, since that seems to > be what holds it together. The type 3 speedo bezel is held on by 5 crimped-over tabs. Take a pair of small screwdrivers and insert one on each side of one tab and GENTLY lever the tab out and over the body lip, letting it back down on the outside of the lip. Be careful not to stretch the bezel. Do this for each tab, but the last 2-3 will come off by themselves. Remove parts from the face until you get to the part that is inserted wrong, then remove it and flip it over. Note that there is a tab that indexes it to the right position. Reassemble in the reverse order. If your speedo needs more work than this, it's best to send it to me, as it's easy to break things inside if you go further. BTW, the front lens is made of VERY soft plastic. Just rubbing it with Kleenix will scratch it. You can clean it, but start with a clean finger, gently under running water. You can finish with a bit of soap on your finger. Be very careful not to scrub around with grit on your finger. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
