But Dave, If the carb is empty, what good does it do to pump the throttle?

My '68 used to "sign" for a moment, but usually after it first started. I
believe the cause was the same, however. I really like the little pushbuttons I
install to run the pump briefly before even running the starter; in hot weather
I find that I really have to hold that down for quite a long time to get all
the bubbles out. It seems to be much more effective than even a long series of
key turnings.

I wonder if one could hook up an electric pump with carbs AND the usual
mechanical pump, just to run by pushbutton to get things primed. At least that
would avoid the whole electric pump/safety issue.
