[T3] Happy days, my baby is running normally again!
<x-flowed>Okay, I've had this very annoying problem with 'sneezing' thru my carbs
and back-firing as loud as a shotgun thru my exhaust along with
hesitation on acceleration. Brian Fye and Martin Magnia both suggested
-- a long time ago, I might add -- that I switch out my carbs to see if
they are the problem. I had already gone over my 1.5" exhaust system
and replaced the right head without success. So yesterday I accepted
Martin's invitation to use his 40mm Dells in place of mine. Got them
bolted up and fired her up.
Holy crap! What a difference!!!
My carbs were leaking fuel from around the accelerator pumps, the #2
accelerator jet was barely dribbling out fuel, closing off the idle
adjust did nothing to affect the idle, and sudden stops would kill the
engine. With Martin's carbs all that has disappeared and I've got my
ceramic coated stinger 'muffler' back on her since I no longer need the
big one to muffle the back-firing >8-) It's soooooo nice to be able to
drive her again without fear of constant back-firing from either end.
Acceleration is good as well. The one thing I'm not crazy about is
Martin's accelerator throw is shorter than mine so the slightest
movement of the throttle is *really* felt at the engine (we have
different linkages but his is better than mine).
I still want to make the switch to fuel injection but for now I gotta
find the money to have my carbs rebuilt so Martin can [eventually] get
his carbs back.
