Chances are they are just frozen, not shot. New ones that are correct are not 
available, but new ones that have slightly less braking force are readily 
available.

OTOH, I rebuild the OE ones. If you're willing to send yours to me, I can at 
least tell you whether they are worth the effort or not. Rebuilding will end up 
costing you slightly more money, but there's a certain satisfaction in knowing 
that you are using the best parts ever made for your brakes.

Good luck. I've never seen ball joint boots sold anywhere but VW, and VW ran 
out of them decades ago.

Start frequenting swap meets and collecting catalogs. Sometimes it might even 
be worthwhile adding notes to a computer file as parts are mentioned. There is 
a file on the web site which tells how the VW part #s are organized. That's a 
very useful place to start.
