The O-ring was only used on 67-on swing axles. The axle tube looks like it is a special that had to be bought with the retainer plate already in place. The left tube is 361 501 105A (has white paint dot) and the right one is a 361 501 106A. Basically all these parts were just used on the cars that got the Z-bar, which was 67-68, plus the late M263 swing axles that we didn't get in the US and a few early M267 swing axles that also came with the Z-bar. I'd say your options are limited: 1) grind off the tab, replace the retainer plate with a 111 501 141B retainer plate (uses the O-ring), reweld the tab. 2) find the correct part somewhere, new or used. 3) grind off both tabs, replace the retainer plate, and remove the z-bar. 4) find a complete 67-68 MT in a junkyard somewhere and install it. Sorry, not the news I was hoping for. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
