There is a special thin open ended wrench that is used to break free the nuts that attach the pre-heater boxes to the muffler. Depending on how old the muffler is, the pre-heater boxes are sometimes rusted on and are near impossible to remove. I found the wrench on ebay for around $30, but you can always try a mechanic if you don't want to spend the money for the tool. Douglas R. The HE's are loose, they swivel freely, but are still securely attached. How do I remove the HE'S from the muffler? These are from a '71.
