What can I > do about it? Up thru '70 there was a bolt and a nut & washer, like you used. Starting in '71 there was a female threaded bushing. The early trannys had a formed "socket" there to hold the head of the bolt fixed while you tightened the nut, but the late trannys are set up so that you can spin the bolt head. This engine has been rebuilt with a later case.
