so. I think we'll get the part anyhow from rancho. just to be safe.
and go from there. When we have the old retainer plate all the way off.
maybe I'll be able to tell if there really was some structural damage.

so the part from rancho went to the wrong address and went back. and my mechanic found the part closer. [ not that I'm far from rancho but I didn't have time to drive down there an hour each way. ]
It turns out there was structural damage to the "Bell Flange" [ axle tube retaining plate. ]
The two pieces that it's made out of are actually separated. you can rattle them against each other. I would try to take pictures but it doesn't move so much that you could notice in a photo.
I'm still a bit confused as to how it's welded anyhow. it doesn't move far enough to come off the niples but it does rattle on them. I previously though those nipples were the welds. But that doesn't matter now, as the part is clearly bad, and now it's replaced. Yea!
one down. thousands more issues to go.
