Re: [T3] Magnetic vent covers

Russ- that's why I love VWs so much. As an engineer, I marvel at the
fact that I own a 30 year old car with an engine that's based on 65
year old techology with a 40 year old computerized fuel injection
system- and in its day it was years ahead of anything Detriot was
doing. I'm a nitpicker when it comes to engineering- I can look under
the hood of my wife's Hondasuzu Passporodeo and spot engineering
mistake after mistake- stuff that comes up all the time and bites me
on the ass. Even my old Dodge Stratus, which was actually pretty good
as far as American cars go, had some flaws that made me shake my head.
The guy who currently owns it- a good buddy from college, just told me
he's got two big rust bubbles in the front hood. WTF?! That shouldn't
be happening anymore. Cars just don't rust like that.

VWs aren't perfect- but the things that have gone wrong in my Passat
have not been because of bad engineering flaws. I buy a car because
it's well-engineered, and the Passat to me seems very well executed.

The biggest fault with my Fasty is the fact that it rusts because the
quality of steel used 30 years ago by everyone was crap. We've come a
long way since then with better metallurgy and galvanization. About
the only thing that was VW's fault are those $#@%&! box sections in
the fenders.
