What Russ said, more or less, assuming you have good parts in place and
everything works right.

As in the adjustment procedure, loosen the three screws on the choke element
retaining ring and turn the body, but tighten up the spring until it secures
the choke butterfly in vertical position when cold.

=> Would it be OK to simply remove the choke butterfly?

No point messing with that. The carb is designed to flow with the butterfly
in place and vertical. Dismantling it will only make a mess either for you
or the next guy.
