Is that the way they came from the factory? It actually looks pretty reasonable that way, but my answer was based on the fact that the FI cars just got the hose with a grommet. If your scheme is original, I wonder why VW changed.


As far as I know, this is factory. My '67 Squareback (very original) also had that pipe. My '63 has a 90-degree bend in the pipe because the intake line runs up the case center line. "Get it going in the right direction" as you said.

Hoover's idea of a lamp fitting is better as the pipe rubs on the rubber bushing, eventually wearing it out. Then the pipe wears through and starts leaking. Not really a problem except for people who don't know to check it.

Similar pipe/bushing combinations were used on all models.
