Tip: If your muffler hasn't been removed in a while, crack as many nuts as
you can get to before you pull the motor. Think long socket extensions. Get
access to a Type 3 muffler wrench by any means necessary for separating the
heat exchangers.

This will be a good opportunity to:

check torque on head studs and case nuts
check operation of preheat flap system
determine where the leak is coming from at the front -- cam plug? main seal?
tranny?
besides what Jim said, have a good look at the throwout fork, too
clean up in the corners
