RE: [T3] oil consumption

Actually, all the little bits of oil and grease
that hit the road, just sit there waiting for
the next rain. Oil floats on water, and at the
first rain after a dry spell, the water gets
underneath the oil, the oil floats on the water,
and creates a really slick surface for a period
of time.

A little drip onto an already wet surface would
disperse rather quickly. A surface with a lot
of oil, right after a bump for example, will take
a long time for the oil to get rinsed out.

This is when the oily runoff gets into the local
creek, waterway, swamp, etc. Another reason to
try to keep your VW leak-free.

Dave, I don't know if the road was the same kind of
asphalt that they use on roads stateside, but with any
light rain, especially the first in a while, it seems
the roads are always slicker than after it has been
downpouring for a while. This is no fault of anyone,
just the way the asphalt seems to be.
