Be cautious with water. Use chopsticks to break up the material that won't come out first. Trickle water down first to find out if the path is clear. If it isn't, you will get water in places that it should not get to and cause rust problems. A powerful vacuum or blower into the vents can get a lot of material out. Try to get stuff out dry first, before using water. Then while using water, find something plastic and long to go through the whole drain line to keep the area open. I found something from my pile of radio control materials for this.
