I was wading through old list mail & didn't see anyone
respond to this. My apologies if it was already
answered.

The Square I'm driving right now is an automatic,
1971. Very smooth shifting, and I'm really getting to
like it, myself being a manual transmission guy my
whole life.

These transmissions (Borg/Warner 003) were used in
later VW watercooled cars I believe (Rabbits?) and
according to the local parts guy, you can get just
about anything you need (except for external stuff
like the damn FRONT MOUNTS -- you'll probably have to
get those from people on the list if it wears out).
