Howdy all, I need to replace the rear hatch brackets on my '69 squareback, as mine are rusted and bent, has anyone done this job? The Bentley manual shows a special VW tool used to release the torsion rods that are attached to the brackets. There is a good picture of one on this webpage http://www.hallvw.clara.net/technical/tailgate.htm it's refered to as VW 709 Has anyone ever seen one of these tools or better yet know where I might buy one? If not please advise on what you might suggest is the best way to release and remove the torsion rods so that I can replace the brackets.
