That looks exactly right. You can let it soak as long as you like. You won't 
hurt anything by over-doing it. You're just letting the soda solution get to 
the acid which has wicked up into the wire. You want to neutralize the acid 
because it WILL damage your parts; the soda solution won't. 

The parts look clean after you do this only because the acid had eaten some of 
it away.

Smear some grease on everything and spread the clamp slightly before you put it 
all back together.
