One thing you have to remember with any type of quick shift assembly is that by shortening the throw you reduce your mechanical advantage. Therefore the effort required at the knob to change gear is increased (unless you use a longer gear stick). If any part of the shift system is damaged or not fully lubricated it will much harder to shift. One thing that you must replace is the shift rod bushing. This is the whitish plastic thing which the shift rod runs through under the shifter assembly. If you haven't replaced it recently, it is almost certain that it is damaged. If it is shifting, will be much harder. So to start with, as a matter of good practice, remove the whole shift rod, clean and regrease it and reassemble it with a new bush. They are only a couple of bucks. Once you have reassembled the whole thing, there is a certain element or trial and error. Try moving the whole shifter assembly around to the left, right, forward or back and check if you can freely engage all gears. If not, loosen the bolts move it and try again.
