This data was as tested by Road and Track magazine in both cases.

But even still, 6000 miles between valve adjustments vs. nothing for 
100,000 miles is pretty significant.  Even the oil change intervals are 
way up compared to the VW with modern cars getting 5000 and even 7500 
mile recommended intervals for oil changes.

I am not trying to sell anyone a Ford or any modern car.  I just think 
we have to admit that we drive Type 3s because we love them, not 
because they are the most practical or comfortable or cost effective 
car on the road.  They are certainly not the safest or most reliable 
either.
