David,

Am I missing something...? When you climb a hill, you have to
"raise" the car -- lift it up the hill. This takes considerably more
energy than just pushing the air out of the way when you're going on the
flat.

How fast can the car go on the flat? Are you floored at 65-70 on
the flat? Do you floor the gas pedal when you climb the hill?

You may wish to approach the hill at 75-80 or so, then floor it
when you hit the hill... with many typical medium grades, I can hold a
speed, but can never recover it on the ascent if I slow down for any
reason (e.g., traffic).
