Re: [T3] Kickdown switch help

Daniel,

On the fuel injected cars, if you gently floor the accelerator pedal, you'll never engage the kickdown switch. You have to give the pedal an extra push to over come a second spring in the lever assembly -- really push the pedal into the floor. As you describe, there's no engaging the kickdown by mistake.

I assume that the same action is required in the carbed cars, so you've probably got it just right.

Thanks Greg,

I think you're probably right. Within the correct speed ranges, a smart stamp on the pedal will get it to downshift immediately every time.

I checked the specs with Bentley, and it is only supposed to downshift from 3rd to 2nd between 35 and 55 mph. This is definitely how my car behaves; the kickdown only works above approx 60kph.

The design seems a bit weird to me. Wouldn't it have been more logical to put the switch under the pedal? I am pretty sure this is how my modern Korean autobox works. As you press the pedal you can hear a switch clicking.
