If I lift up on the door slightly, I can see the vertical surface of the
pillar flex and there is some movement of the hinge in relation to the
pillar...

Jim, that makes sense, but neither hinge plate (upper or lower) appear to
move when I open or close the door. I'll look more closely

Also, how are the hinges attached to the door?
