It had had a fresh rebuild of the engine, but the crankcase was filled with gas, and washed the bearings out. The car was then abandoned, and the police impounded it. A salvage yard bought it with a bunch of other cars from impound, and I bought it from them with no title for $50. It has been a donor car since. Most of the body damage on it was from being in the salvage yard. John Jarenson has the rear fenders, Tom Hanson has the automatic shifter cable, someone else has the interior panels. Toby has part of the back seat in his sleep extender. Jim Adney got the drivers door glass. The wiper assembly went someplace. The radio mount went somplace. Front shock bolts, and rear motor mounts went to Daniel Baum in Isreal. One of the brake lines went to Mark Fuhrman. Back up lights went to Leon Martinez. Etc, Etc. Donor cars live on in many ways...... ;=) -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '65 T1 (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
